  • The coastal road near President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club is set to close Jan. 16 for his expected fifth consecutive weekend visit.
  • The road closure and temporary flight restrictions are standard security measures for presidential visits to Palm Beach.
  • This trip would mark Trump’s 18th visit to Palm Beach since beginning his second term on Jan. 20, 2025.

The coastal road next to President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club is set to close Friday, Jan. 16, for what is expected to be Trump’s fifth consecutive weekend at his Palm Beach home.

South Ocean Boulevard will close to through-traffic between South County Road and the Southern Boulevard traffic circle beginning at 5 a.m. Jan. 16, Palm Beach officials said in an alert sent about 9 a.m. Jan. 13. Once it closes, the road will stay blocked off until further notice, according to the alert.

Trump could remain in Palm Beach through Monday, Jan. 19, according to the notice from the FAA’s Safety Team, which cautions pilots that temporary flight restrictions soon will be issued for the airspace over Palm Beach.

While the FAA’s notice does not mention Trump by name, such notices of impending presidential-level temporary flight restrictions have become early and reliable indicators of his travel plans.

Each time Trump visits Palm Beach, the closure of South Ocean Boulevard near Mar-a-Lago effectively cuts the island in half. The road closure is a security measure that has gone into effect many times since Trump began his first term as president in January 2017.

Trump’s motorcade route from Mar-a-Lago to Palm Beach International Airport on Jan. 11 was diverted because of a “suspicious object” found by the U.S. Secret Service near Palm Beach International Airport, according to a statement from White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt. Officials have not released more information about what that object may have been.

The upcoming visit would mark Trump’s 18th to Palm Beach since he began his second term in the White House on Jan. 20, 2025. He most recently spent Jan. 9-11 at Mar-a-Lago, his first trip back to the island after he had spent roughly two weeks in Palm Beach for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. That trip began in the early morning hours of Dec. 20 and continued through Jan. 4.

A separate FAA notice indicates Trump will travel to Miami on Jan. 19. It’s unclear what time or why he will go to Miami.
