How To Level Archery Skill In The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits
In The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits, Sims can now partake in archery. The sport is available for kids and upwards and has a five-level skill associated with it. Kids will often come home from Camp Gibbi Gibbi with new archery skills, and there are neighborhood competitions as well linked to the Fitness Festival.
This skill also unlocks a couple of decorative bonuses and works well with the new competitive trait. Here’s everything you need to know about the archery skill and how to maximize it fast.
What Is The Archery Skill?
Archery is a new five-level skill available from child age upward. You’ll need to purchase either the Bullseye! Archery Target for $315 or find an archery target in Gibbi Gibbi.
Visit the following places to practice archery:
- In the small park by Fearful Fish Lounge in Crystal Valley there is an archery target with some hay bales.
- Camp Gibbi Gibbi – which can be visited as a day visitor or for a getaway – in Wanderwood Wilds has targets by the shore.
- Plumbird Park has targets next to the playground, and is found in Wanderwood Wilds.
- Jellyfish Junction hosts frequent Fitness Festivals and Archery Competitions on the pier, and you can play archery during these times.
If you reach level 10 of the Park Worker career in the Park Ranger Branch, you’ll unlock the Ranger’s Esteem Archery Target which has zero cost.
How To Maximize The Archery Skill
Archery isn’t like other skills. While it doesn’t take too long to learn, you cannot just practice for a long period of time. If you practice for too long you will become injured.
At first, the debuff is Injury – Archer’s Elbow which gives a +1 uncomfortable moodlet. If you ignore this and continue, you’ll then get Injury:Torn Rotator. This gives a +3 uncomfortable moodlet and they stack together.
They can last for several hours, which seems to extend if you ignore them, and if you become too uncomfortable, your Sim will refuse to partake in archery.
The best way to maximize the skill without injury is to practice in small bursts over a few days. I also found that having higher fitness, a balanced and focused mood and your needs met vastly reduces the chance of injury.
Here’s what is unlocked at each level of the skill.
Level One
You can click on any archery target and choose ‘Practice Archery’. This will cycle through several rounds. We recommend not doing this more than twice in a row or injuries start to kick in. You’ll also be able to click on the target and choose ‘Clear Arrows’ and your Sim will pull all the arrows from the target.
Level Two
Once you hit level two, you can ‘Start Archery Competition’ by selecting the option at an archery target. You’ll need to have another Sim in the area to compete against. You can also choose to ‘Acclaim About Archery’ to other Sims from the hobbies social sub-menu.
Level Three
Sims can also choose to ‘Discuss Archery Techniques’ with Sims using the same social sub-menu. The Advanced Bow will be unlocked for use. To access it, click on the arrows by the archery target and choose Select Bow > Advanced Bow. Finally, an Archery Glove will also be unlocked in Create-A-Sim.
Level Four
You can now go Bow Fishing at any fishing spot. Your Sim will also be able to mentor others by choosing the option from an archery target. The Expert Bow is now also unlocked for you to use. This is the highest level and most accurate bow. There’s also an Armguard in CAS which your Sim can wear.
The gloves are visible with any outfit, but the arm guard only shows up with short-sleeved tops.
Level Five
Your Sim can now choose ‘Ask To Shoot Apple Off Head’ from the hobbies social sub-menu. If a Sim will allow you to do this depends on the Sim. Braver Sims may let you attempt it when you’ve barely said hello, while others will want to know and trust you, or may refuse outright. This can go wrong, but so far I’ve only seen that you can entirely miss both Sim and apple. You will get a tense moodlet if you have a near miss!
This final level also unlocks the Sky Piercer wall decoration. This bow and three arrows looks great on any wall and is purchasable in build buy mode.
Archery Competitions
There are two types of competition: casual and organized. A casual competition can be started by any Sim of level two skill or above. All they need to do is click on an archery target and select ‘Start a Competition With’.
After you’ve chosen this option, eligible Sims will show up in a pop-up menu. Choose your opponent to begin the competition. You can only play against one other Sim.
You’ll take turns to shoot and once the competition is over you’ll receive a moodlet based on the result. A loss can result in tense and angry moodlets, while a win can boost happiness and confidence. There are no scores here, just a moodlet to convey the result.
Sims with the competitive trait will have higher moodlet effects, depending on their competitive spirit e.g. sore losers will gain higher negative effects from a loss.
Organized competitions are part of the Fitness Festival which runs from 9am – 6pm Monday to Wednesday on the pier in front of Fletcher’s Cottage in
William Tell Memorial Archery Competition
The archery competition runs for the duration of the fitness festival. To compete, Sims simply have to go up to one of the two flashing archery targets on the shore and click on them. You’ll see the option to ‘Compete In William Tell Memorial Archery Competition.’
You can only compete once per day and after your Sim has finished, a score will appear in your notifications. When the festival is over a notification will tell you the top scores. Once again, the reward is a positive or negative moodlet, relating to your position on the scoreboard and if you have a positive or negative attitude towards winning and losing.
Bow Fishing
Bow fishing works the same as regular fishing, but your Sim will shoot arrows at the fish, instead of using a fishing rod. There’s no separate skill here, and bow fishing will build your regular fishing skill.
To go bow fishing, click on any fishing spot sign and select ‘Go Bow Fishing’. You can also click on the water in an area populated with fish and choose the same option.
Bow fishing is slower to catch fish compared to regular fishing, but you will have more chance of success with the following:
- Higher Fishing Skill
- Positive Mood
- Fulfilled Needs
- High Focus
- Better Quality Bow
It is possible to level your fishing skill entirely by bow fishing, but we don’t recommend it due to the extra time it takes. This is more like a fun sideline.
Mentoring
Mentoring archery works in the same way as any other skill mentoring. You can only mentor Sims who have a lower skill level than you, and since this is a quick skill to level, you may struggle to find some.
One way to find a Sim to mentor is to go to the Fitness Festival or one of the parks where the targets are and approach Sims who are dropping their bows a lot!
You can ask directly via the social menu, or click on the archery target and select ‘Mentor in Archery’ and a pop-up menu will show any eligible Sims.
Mentoring will build a Sim’s skill faster and build a positive relationship between the Sims involved.
