Beach Volleyball Ends Weekend Trip With Split

OZARK, Mo. – Lindenwood beach volleyball (5-3, 0-0 OVC) wrapped up their weekend trip at the Beach Bear Bash with a Saturday split. The Lions lost their first match against Central Arkansas by a final score of 2-3 before sweeping Southwest Baptist by a final score of 5-0. LU went 2-2 during their weekend trip to Ozark, Mo.
MATCH ONE
Lindenwood – 2
Central Arkansas – 3
Lindenwood lost a nail-bitter against Central Arkansas on Saturday by a final score of 3-2. The match started off with the number five pair as Rebecca Janke and Aubrey Sheppard lost in two sets by scores of 21-16 and 21-9.
The four pairs of Taylor Gentemann and Gabby Belcher went all the way to three sets, but were able to secure the Lions’ first point with scores of 21-18, 18-21 and 15-13. The three pair of Katie Bockhorst and Kaelyn Putz also went to three sets, but it went the way of UCA with scores of 21-19, 18-21 and 13-15.
Lindenwood’s number two pairing of Abby Jacobs and Annalie McWhorter tied the match at 2-2 in a three set joust. Jacobs and McWhorter came back in the third set winning with scores of 25-27, 21-18 and 15-13.
Abby VanBuskirk and Nyah Wilson battled in the one pairing but fell just short to Anna Linskey and Riley Melton from Central Arkansas as the lost in two sets by scores of 21-18 and 21-13. LU will play Central Arkansas twice next weekend at Austin Peay.
MATCH TWO
Lindenwood – 5
Southwest Baptist – 0
Lindenwood was able to bounce back during their final match at the Beach Bear Bash over Southwest Baptist in a 5-0 sweep. It marked the second time this season Lindenwood has been able to sweep the Bearcats.
In the five pair, Janke and Sheppard took down SBU with scores of 21-17 and 21-9. Gentemann and Belcher followed suit with a 2-0 sweep of their own in the four pairs with scores of 21-11 and 21-18.
Bockhorst and Putz needed extra points in the first set but were able to complete the 2-0 set sweep with scores of 22-20 and 21-12. Jacobs and McWhorter (21-16 and 21-14) won in the twos while Wilson and VanBuskirk (23-21 and 21-18) cleaned up in the ones as the Lions ended the day with their second win of the weekend.
Lindenwood will be back in action next Friday and Saturday as they travel down to Clarksville, Tenn. to compete in the Austin Peay Tournament. LU will play the Governors twice and Central Arkansas twice. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
