It’s a great trip that for many can be a free day of fun in the sand and sea and an iconic way to enjoy the weather.
Sussex is home to a number of stunning beaches for visitors and locals to soak in the sun.
Whether it is the gorgeous Camber Sands, the classic Brighton beach or the calming Pevensey Bay, you’re spoilt for choice.
Best beaches in the UK
But while some love these beaches, and many enjoy fantastic review on TripAdvisor, there are always some slightly harsher critics.
7 hilarious (and harsh) reviews of Sussex beaches
Here are some of the stranger and critical reviews of some of Sussex’s favourite beaches.
‘Most aggressive seagulls ever’
One reviewer was not impressed with the wildlife down at Camber Sands.
They said: “The beach at the west end is beautiful and backed by rolling sand dunes.
“However this has the worst, most aggressive seagulls I have ever seen. A picnic or even a few sandwiches would be impossible.”

‘Water was so wet’
One reviewer who went to Brighton was not happy with their visit for slightly stranger reasons, scoring it a one out of five.
They said: “I’ve been to hundreds of beaches and swam in many seas, but Brighton beach was by far the sandiest I’ve ever built a sandcastle on, and the water was so wet that it soaked me to the skin.
“That’s the first and last time I visit Brighton, that’s for sure.”
‘Terrible traffic’
One angry reviewer took to TripAdvisor to review West Wittering Beach.

The review reads: “Awful management of traffic. Only one road in and out, don’t waste your time or money here, plenty of other beaches around.”
‘Doo poo alley’
A rather scathing review of another beach in West Sussex was that of Pagham Beach.
One angry visitor was disappointed with the amount of animal faeces.
They said: “Walked around lagoon from caravan park, my kids named it dog poo alley.
“Got to the beach and realised dog poo alley was the best part. Enough said.”
‘Not one smile’
Another angry review came after a trip to The Beach Littlehampton in West Sussex.
It was dubbed “one of the worst beaches” by this particular visitor.
They said: “One of the worst beaches I’ve been to, period. Not one smile was seen…

“Nothing could make this place happy not even a McDonalds.”
‘A boring beach’
One person who visited Bexhill beach did not criticise the sand, seagulls or sea, but instead the lack of things to do.
They said: “The beach is very very pebbly. There is nothing to do there, it’s quite boring.
“After about an hour, we were really bored. Don’t think we will be visiting here again.”
‘Seagull attack was terrifying’
Another visitor to Camber Sands also took time to warn others of the seagulls.
This day-tripper say they were “stormed upon by 40 or so seagulls”.

“Another couple decided to make a film of us being attacked by the birds.
“Never again! Would not recommend….”
